Northville High is a Class A high school that competes in Division 1 (Michigan's largest high school designation) with enrollment of about 2,600 in grades Freshmen through Senior. It is one of the largest high schools in the state of Michigan.

Beginning in 2008, the Mustangs moved to the Kensington Lakes Activities Association (KLAA), which combined the 12 schools from the Western Lakes Activities Association (WLAA) and 10 schools from the Kensington Valley Conference (KVC). Waterford Kettering and Waterford Mott will also join the KLAA form a 24-school association. The makeup of that association was relatively short-lived as more realignments occurred in 2017, when nine schools left to form the Lakes Valley Conference. There are now 16-schools in the current KLAA Conference, consisting of the West and East Divisions. Northville competes in the West Division along with Brighton, Canton, Hartland, Howell, Plymouth Novi and Salem. The East Division includes Belleville, Churchill, Dearborn, Fordson, Franklin, John Glenn, Stevenson and Wayne Memorial.

This is the fourth affiliation for Northville since 1950. Past memberships include:

We are proud of the rich tradition of Northville Mustang Basketball. We strive to teach our current players about past accomplishments so that, while always focusing on creating new memories, we continue to appreciate contributions of our past teams, coaches and players. Northville Basketball, past and present, has achieved tremendous success over the past 60 years. Amazingly, Northville High School started its Boys Basketball Program in 1909!
